McCarthy Cook & Co. and its partners
were recently awarded the exclusive right to develop the 237,000
square foot, five-story Neurosciences Laboratory and Clinical
Research Building on block 19-A in the Mission Bay Campus in San
Francisco for the University of California San Francisco (UCSF).
The building will house two major UCSF
program groups: the Program for Neurodegenerative Disease
Research and the Keck Foundation Center for Integrative
Neuroscience.
The Regents of the University of
California conducted an extensive national selection process with
fifteen development teams competing. McCarthy Cook formed a
partnership with Edgemoor Real Estate Services a wholly owned
subsidiary of Clark Construction, one of the nations largest
contractors. The Edgemoor/McCarthy Cook Partnership (EMCP) then
retained the San Francisco office of Skidmore Owens Merrill (SOM)
to design the project.
The building’s uses will include
clinical space, wet laboratory research with support space and
supporting offices.
MCC/Edgemoor/SOM will design, build,
own and manage the project and lease the completed building back
to UCSF. The building will be built under a fast-track method with
a 24-month design and construction period.
