Mr. Cook is Co-President and Co-Chief Investment Officer of McCarthy Cook & Co. (“MCC”) a Los Angeles based commercial real estate investment and management firm. He is primarily responsible for acquisitions, asset management leasing and development as well as investor relations.
Founded in 1995 by Tom McCarthy and Mr. Cook, MCC invests in office, mixed use, medical research and technology properties in the major markets of the western U.S. The firm is an institutional real estate investor and vertically integrated operating company. Its current and former institutional partners include JP Morgan Investment Management, Morgan Stanley Real Estate, Canyon Capital Advisors, the California Public Employment Retirement System (CalPERS), the Blackstone Group, Stockbridge Capital Partners and BayNorth Capital. MCC maintains offices in Los Angeles, Costa Mesa, San Francisco and Phoenix.
McCarthy Cook has completed over $3 billion in transactions. Its current portfolio encompasses 4.1 million square feet of prime office space and includes China Basin in San Francisco (930,000 sq. ft.) and a 1 million sq. ft. Class A portfolio in Phoenix. In 2012, MCC completed the 230,000 sq. ft., $225 million Sandler Neuroscience Center for the University of California San Francisco in a public/private joint venture involving a $750 million capital lease and associated public bond financing.
Prior to founding McCarthy Cook & Co., Mr. Cook was a senior executive with Maguire Thomas Partners. During his decade with Maguire he held responsibilities in nearly every area of the organization including finance, leasing, development and asset management.
Mr. Cook holds an MBA in Real Estate Finance from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a B.S. in Finance from the University of Southern California. He is an Executive Committee member of the Wharton Real Estate Center, member of Young President’s Organization, the Urban Land Institute, Pension Real Estate Association and actively participates in civic and charity endeavors.
